From Food Truck to Brick-and-Mortar: A Natural Progression
The transition from a food truck to a brick-and-mortar establishment has been a long-standing goal for the New York Burger Shack team. Kaly Alzate, the chef and part-owner, explains that the food truck was a strategic move to establish their brand, fine-tune their menu, and introduce themselves to the local community. "That was always really the goal of ours, to have a storefront," Alzate said. "The truck was to get our feet wet, to get the menu down, to let the people know who we are."
Expanding the Menu: Milkshakes and Beyond
The move to a permanent location will allow the New York Burger Shack team to expand their menu offerings significantly. In addition to their signature burgers, the new location will feature a lineup of 12 delectable milkshake flavors, catering to the sweet-toothed patrons. "They're all ready to go full throttle on this," Alzate said of her business partners, Jay Donovan and Mike Torres. "It was now or never and we're just betting on it."
Embracing a New Identity: The New York Taco Truck
While the New York Burger Shack food truck is relocating, its legacy lives on in a rebranded form. The truck has been rebranded as the New York Taco Truck, offering a diverse selection of tacos, burritos, and other Mexican-inspired delights. "You can never go wrong with tacos," Alzate said, reflecting on the decision to expand their culinary offerings. The truck's menu now features seven variations of tacos, including steak, chicken, birria, and vegetarian options, as well as empanadas, sweet plantains, rice, and beans.
Maintaining Burger Shack Favorites
Despite the exciting changes, the New York Burger Shack team is committed to preserving the fan-favorite burgers that made them a local sensation. Diners can still indulge in classics like the All-American (two beef patties, thick-cut bacon, American cheese, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles) and the Backyard Barbecue (beef patty with cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles). "We can't wait to get going," Alzate said, expressing her enthusiasm for the new chapter.
A Whole New Challenge: Navigating the Transition
The shift from a food truck to a brick-and-mortar establishment presents a unique set of challenges for the New York Burger Shack team. Alzate acknowledges the increased complexity, noting, "Now we have a restaurant and there's a lot more food involved, there are employees. It's a whole different challenge." However, the team is embracing this transition with open arms, eager to provide their loyal customers with an enhanced dining experience. The new New York Burger Shack location will open at 2080 New York State Route 112 in Medford, just a stone's throw away from their previous food truck spot. As the community eagerly awaits the grand opening, the team's unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional burgers, tacos, and a touch of culinary magic is sure to captivate the hearts and taste buds of local foodies.
